Arkansas Teens Are Spending Summer Break Doing Yard Work For Free

A pair of teens from Magnolia, Arkansas, are using their summer break to serve others instead of relaxing. Amanullah Rowden and Lee'Varus Robinson, both incoming seniors at Magnolia High School, have been driving around town every day this summer offering free lawn care. They knock on doors of homes with overgrown yards and volunteer to mow and weed-eat without charging.

The idea was inspired by a YouTube video of someone doing similar work. “It’s not about the money or anything,” Robinson says, “it’s about the smile on their faces.” The teens especially enjoy helping elderly residents and sometimes also help out with other household tasks. One woman they recently helped was brought to tears over their kindness, which the boys say made their day.

So far, they’ve mowed around 50 lawns and they plan to continue throughout the summer. They have other career goals, but also hope to continue growing their lawn service. Their acts of kindness have made a big impact on their community.
