Last week in Omaha, Nebraska, FedEx delivery driver Javon Hall helped a man in a wheelchair safely cross a busy intersection. Someone witnessed the kind act and reached out to a local news station hoping the man who offered assistance could be recognized and thanked. Hall was finishing up his deliveries when the man, later identified as Tuan, asked for help. Without hesitation, Hall stopped what he was doing to help him get across the major intersection, which also is on a challenging incline.
The driver says helping others comes naturally to him, and is something he picked up from his mother. After pushing Tuan to the library, the two parted ways without exchanging names, but during a follow-up interview, Hall noticed someone familiar wearing a blue coat at a nearby bus stop. It was Tuan and the chance encounter gave them an opportunity to reconnect and for him to thank Hall in person.
Tuan, who was born with a physical disability, explains that his manual wheelchair frequently malfunctions, making it difficult to get around without help. He used to have a powered wheelchair that made things easier, but it broke. He says the good Samaritan’s help made a real difference since the intersection where they met is dangerous for him. “He's a rescuer. Just like any firefighter,” Tuan says of Hall, adding, “I want to thank Javon. I'm glad he's here and he rescued me.”
