Sources have shared with "TMZ" that Val Kilmer’s health had been in serious decline for a long time before his passing, leaving him bedridden for years until his death. While the late actor was cancer-free, his body had been weakened by years of treatment for throat cancer. “Val was very frail near the end of his life...and, his death wasn't sudden,” sources say, adding that his family and friends gathered by his side in his final days.
Kilmer, who was hospitalized earlier this year, saw his health taking a major turn in the past week. It also turns out a video he posted in February wearing a Batman mask wasn't an accurate depiction of his condition, with the source clarifying it was filmed years ago.
Kilmer’s last public appearance was at the Thespians Go Hollywood Gala in 2019 with his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, who confirmed his passing to “The New York Times” and revealed he died of pneumonia. Kilmer was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, and suffered lasting effects including damage to his voice.
