Earlier this month, 17-year-old Tyler Bishop tragically lost his life in Laurens County, South Carolina, after being struck by a drunk driver. Inspired by the tragedy, 11-year-old Bryson Schadt, a sixth-grade student in Greenville County, decided to take action.
After attending Bishop's viewing with his mother, Bryson launched a community service project to raise money for Uber gift cards. His plan is to distribute these cards to bars and restaurants, so bartenders can call rides for customers who may be too impaired to drive.
“It makes me feel very good inside knowing that I could’ve saved a life and prevented harm from other people,” Bryson says. He adds that you’re never too young to try to make a difference. With his mother’s help, he hopes to raise $500 and distribute the Uber gift cards next week.
