What The Perfect Tailgating Experience Involves

Football season has kicked off and that means it’s tailgating season, too. Americans love the pre-game experience so much, 70% say they look forward to tailgating season as much, if not more than the holiday season, a new survey finds.

According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults, tailgating is the best part of game day for some fans.

  • A quarter have attended a tailgate without even having tickets to the game it was for, and 22% have gone to a tailgate and had tickets to the game, but continued tailgating instead of going.
  • This year, 29% of respondents plan to go to at least one tailgate.
  • Overall, people think tailgates should start two hours before the game starts, but being on time is important, as 36% think it’s rude to show up after the game begins.
  • So, what makes for the perfect tailgate? It includes 12 people, but 23% don’t consider it a party without more guests than this.
  • Along with the good company, it also has food (57%), chairs (41%), alcohol (31%), and team apparel (20%).
  • The top must-have foods for tailgating are burgers (51%), hot dogs (47%), chips (43%), chicken wings (35%), barbecue (19%), potato salad (17%), brats (16%) and nachos (15%).
  • The perfect tailgate would have four different kinds of chips, three desserts and three alcoholic drinks to choose from.
  • People love tailgating so much, 76% say they wouldn’t regret going even if their team lost.
