Vince Gill has been a touring member of Eagles since 2016 and the passing of Glenn Frey. At the time, Don Henley told him he was the only person he considered to bring into the band, and Gill has made the transition from solo country star to band member seamlessly. One reason is his mindset: Vince tells the story of how Henley walked in on him playing his solo country hit "Whenever You Come Around" during soundcheck. Henley was so impressed, he asked Gill if the band could add the song to their setlist. "I said, 'With all due respect, I’d rather not,'" Gill replied, with an explanation. "I don’t want to give these people one more reason to not like me; I don’t want anybody sitting out there saying, 'I didn’t come here to hear Vince’s songs; I came here to hear the Eagles,'" he continued. "That’s how I respect that."
