Things People Used To Say All The Time That Wouldn’t Make Sense Today

If you’re old enough, you remember some of the common sayings we had as kids that would confuse people if you said them now. A Reddit post has people sharing these by asking, “What's something that was normal to say growing up that sounds crazy today?”

Nearly a thousand responses have come in, with some showing how far technology has come and others reminding us how weird our slang used to be.

  • "I gotta print the directions, gimme a sec!"
  • "Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares."
  • "Would you like to accept a call from 'practice is over, come pick me up!'"
  • "Anyone seen the cordless phone?!"
  • "Did you get the newspaper to check the movie times?"
  • "Non-smoking, please."
  • "Call me after 8, I’m out of minutes."
  • "Get off the phone, I need to use the Internet."
  • "Phone rings... 'I’ll get it!'"
  • "I'm gonna star-sixty-nine your a**!"
  • "Don't text me, I only get 100 texts a month. After that it's 10 cents."
  • "Check the TV Guide Channel to see what's on."
  • "Sorry it took so long to call. My mom/sister just would NOT get off the phone."
  • "Talk to the hand.🫸"
  • "PSYCH!"
  • "[Snapping] my fingers in a Z formation."
  • "All that and a bag of chips."
  • “Page me or hit my beeper up.”
