Following a recent Sunday lunch with her family, South London, 60-year-old Shelly Bergh collapsed in the bathroom after feeling unwell. Her sons, Harvey and Sid, who are both trained in CPR, immediately began chest compressions while paramedics were called. London Ambulance Service arrived within four minutes and delivered five shocks from a defibrillator before transporting her to the hospital.
Harvey, who’d received CPR training through work, describes the moment as surreal and credits his training with helping him stay calm during the emergency. Shelly spent several days in the ICU, where cardiologists placed a stent in her heart. She expressed gratitude for her son’s quick actions and the care she received from first responders.
Following her recovery, Shelly and her husband John met up with the paramedics in person to thank them. The paramedics praised the sons' swift and effective CPR. Based on her experience, the mom is now advocating for people to get trained in lifesaving techniques.
