So many country stars have been invited to join the Grand Ole Opry (some that have only been around for a few years), that sometimes we're surprised when someone who's been around awhile finally gets the coveted invitation. Steve Earle, who has been one of Nashville's most respected voices since he broke through with "Guitar Town" back in 1986, was performing at the Opry Saturday night when Vince Gill presented him with a custom guitar strap, with a caveat: "You have to be an Opry member to have one of these," Gill said. "We want to invite you to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry." Earle was obviously stunned by the long-overdue invitation, saying "This is kind of the biggest thing that has ever happened to me in my life." His induction ceremony will happen later this year.
