Stress is a part of daily life for most of us, thanks to things like work, family and bills. While most Americans have to deal with it, it turns out, where we live can play a role in how stressed we feel. And a new report highlights the places that are the best and worst at dealing with it.
- WalletHub’s annual list of the Most and Least Stressed Cities in the U.S. has just come out.
- They rated 182 cities across the country on 39 key metrics in the areas of work stress, financial stress, family stress, and health & safety stress.
- These include everything from average weekly work hours to divorce rates and unemployment rates.
- So, where are Americans the most stressed? Number one this year is Detroit, Michigan.
- Blame part of that on the city having the highest unemployment rate in the U.S., at 11.4%.
- Detroit also has the lowest median household income after adjusting for the cost of living, just over $38-thousand, as well as high violent crime rates and the second-highest rate of separation and divorce.
- On the flip side, the least stressed city in the country is South Burlington, Vermont.
- It ranks lowest for both financial and family stress, and near the bottom for health & safety stress.
