What Dads Want For Father’s Day May Surprise You

You only have a few days left to shop for a Father’s Day present, but before you pick up yet another tie for him or a World’s Best Dad mug, you may want to reconsider. It turns out, some dads feel cheated when it comes to their special holiday, as 84% feel that Father’s Day gets a lot less love than Mother’s Day, according to a new survey.

They may be right because only 41% of dads report receiving a gift from their family for Father’s Day.

  • But that doesn’t mean you should just buy them anything and call it a present.
  • A third of papas in the poll admit to faking excitement over a disappointing gift in the past.
  • The dreaded presents they had to pretend to like include socks (49%), ties (38%), #1 Dad mugs (34%) and random power tools (27%).
  • Fortunately, the dads aren’t shy about sharing what they would be happy to unwrap this Sunday.
  • More than half (54%) want a nice meal that didn’t come from a microwave or delivery app.
  • Some dream bigger, like the 53% who would love their family to surprise them with a vacation that they didn’t have to plan
  • But 17% just want total control of the TV remote, 14% would enjoy a personal butler to serve their every whim for the day, and 14% say a full day of silence would be most appreciated.
  • Overall, dads’ expectations are low, with 60% saying the perfect amount to spend is just $25 to $50.
  • And some would be delighted to get a gift that costs a lot less, like the 83% who would love to get a lottery ticket for Father’s Day.
