5 freight cars jumped the tracks in Columbia, TN just before noon Tuesday.
A train derailed in Columbia just before noon Tuesday. The Columbia Police Department said Columbia Academy and other homes and businesses were evacuated as a precaution. Authorities said that 5 cars of the freight train jumped the tracks. One of those cars was a propane tanker car. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reported that the train cars were empty and no injuries were reported. Columbia Fire & Rescue Chief Chris Cummins said that initial reports indicate that a switching rail may have malfunctioned, which caused the train to derail.
