Cyclosporiasis is spreading across the country and it’s now spreading Tennessee. Since May 1, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 11 to 30 cases of the virus in the state. There are 843 cases total nationwide. The Lincoln County Health Department said they have had one unconfirmed case here in Lincoln County. According to infectious disease expert Dr. William Schaffner with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the parasite, caused by the parasite Cyclospora —  typically causes severe stomach issues such as diarrhea, loss of appetite and stomach cramps. People usually contract the illness in late spring and early summer.
