Scam Artist Working Hard In The Area

Sheriff Tull Malone said the woman notified his office after she lost ten thousand dollars in the scam.

One of our neighbors has fallen victim to another scam artist. Sheriff Tull Malone said the woman notified his office after she lost ten thousand dollars in the scam. The woman told deputies the caller claimed to be with the sheriff office and said they had multiple warrant for her arrest on several charges including failure to appear and failure to do her civic duty. The scammer told the victim her bond was 15-thousand dollars but if she provided 10-thousand dollars in bitcoin she could avoid being arrested. Unfortunately, the caller convinced her to go to a local business that had a bitcoin machine and deposit the money. Sheriff Malone said no law enforcement officer anywhere will ever call and tell you that you have an outstanding warrant. They will just arrive at your home or work and arrest you. Never agree to pay anyone claiming to be law enforcement regardless of how convincing they may be. Hang up and call your local law enforcement agency directly, immediately. Sheriff Malone said most of these scammers operate from overseas and once they have your money it is not recoverable.
