TDOT Warns About Putting Signs on State Right-Of-Ways

With election season approaching the Tennessee Department of Transportation issued a public notice dealing with signs on state right-of-way.

With election season approaching the Tennessee Department of Transportation issued a public notice dealing with signs on state right-of-way. Signs are not permitted within the state right-of-way including but not limited to political campaign signs, election signs, real estate signs, business advertisements and other private signage. Signs placed within the rights-of-way can create safety hazards, especially at intersections, where multiple signs are ofte43n placed close together. In addition these signs create a danger for contractors hired by the state to mow the right-of-way. Signs placed on state right-of-way will be removed and stored for a limited time for owner retrieval. Citizens, candidates and businesses are encouraged to place signs on private property but only with the landowners permission and outside o0f the state right-of-way.
